Do you want to know what the Bible says about managing money? If so, then keep reading. We will be taking a look at 21 Proverbs to help you better manage your money.

Those of us who belong to the Christian faith may already be familiar with the Book of Proverbs. However; for those who are not, this particular book provides many great lessons on how to successfully manage money.

Below, I have provided 21 Proverbs to help you better manage your money. Please note that some of these scriptures can fall under multiple categories. In addition, if you want to read the verse using a different version of the Bible, then feel free to head on over to Bible Gateway. Now, let’s go ahead and jump right into it!

Managing

Proper planning is necessary.

Proverbs 21:5 – The plans of the diligent lead to profit as surely as haste leads to poverty. (NIV)

Proverbs 13:16 – A wise man thinks ahead; a fool doesn’t and even brags about it. (TLB)

Earning

Hard work is a must. Being lazy won’t get you far.

Proverbs 10:4 – Lazy hands make for poverty, but diligent hands bring wealth. (NIV)

Proverbs 14:23 – All hard work brings a profit, but mere talk leads only to poverty. (NIV)

Proverbs 12:11 – Those who work their land will have abundant food, but those who chase fantasies have no sense. (NIV)

Proverbs 13:4 – Lazy people want much but get little, but those who work hard will prosper. (NLT)

Debt

Be mindful about borrowing.

Proverbs 22:7 – The rich rule over the poor and the borrower is slave to the lender. (NIV)

Proverbs 17:18 – One who has no sense shakes hands in pledge and puts up security for a neighbor. (NIV)

Giving

Cease opportunities to give.

Proverbs 3:27 – Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due, when it is in your power to act. (NIV)

Proverbs 22:9 – The generous will themselves be blessed, for they share their food with the poor. (NIV)

Saving

Save for rainy days.

Proverbs 21:20 – The wise store up choice food and olive oil, but fools gulp theirs down. (NIV)

Proverbs 30:24-25 – Four things on earth are small, yet they are extremely wise. Ants are creatures of little strength, yet they store up their food in summer. (NIV)

Investing/Inheritance

Invest and grow your money so that you leave an inheritance.

Proverbs 13:22 – A good person leaves an inheritance for their children’s children, but a sinner’s wealth is stored up for the righteous. (NIV)

Proverbs 13:11 – Dishonest money dwindles away, but he who gathers money little by little makes it grow. (NIV)

Proverbs 27: 23-24 – Be sure you know the condition of your flocks, give careful attention to your herds; for riches do not endure forever, and a crown is not secure for all generations. (NIV)

Proverbs 31:16 – She considers a field and buys it. From her earnings she plants a vineyard. (NIV)

Seeking Wisdom

Seek wise counsel.

Proverbs 12:15 – The way of fools seems right to them, but the wise listen to advice. (NIV)

Proverbs 1: 5 – A wise man will hear and increase learning, and a man of understanding will attain wise counsel. (NKJV)

Proverbs 17:16 – Why should fools have money in hand to buy wisdom, when they are not able to understand it? (NIV)

Discipline

Be disciplined with your mind and money,

Proverbs 12:1 – Whoever loves discipline loves knowledge; but whoever hates correction is stupid. (NIV)

Proverbs 13:13 – Whoever scorns instruction will pay for it, but whoever respects a command is rewarded. (NIV)

Final Thoughts

There are tons of scriptures in the Bible which teach about money. However; for this particular post, I solely wanted to focus on the scriptures in the Book of Proverbs. Although, I didn’t capture every single scripture in the Book of Proverbs, I tried to capture those that were most relevant to each of the 8 topics above.
